The Breezes of Change…

…are a blowin’. I have always been a firm believer in fate, and our time in Nicaragua over these past months has done nothing but solidify this belief. Many things have changed in our lives in this year; our love for Nicaragua and our new lifestyle has enabled us to close some doors and open […]

I think that Marlboro should find their next smokin’ cowboy in Nicaragua. These guys are hardcore! CG xo Photo taken at the El Transito Rodeo in Nicaragua.

Some Surf Shots of Yours’ Truly

Since I am often behind the camera shooting the surfers, I don’t often have my own photo taken when I am surfing. Oscar Cecares, the talented photographer at Rise Up Surf Tours Nicaragua (and all around nice guy!), took some great shots of me while we stayed with him and his crew down in Salinas […]

The Truth!

…we are busy getting found. High fives and fist bumps to all of you who are on a journey; may you continuously find what you are looking for, embrace the challenges in doing so, and find yourself giggling uncontrollably at some time or another because you are so incredibly blessed to be doing what […]

Appreciating Managua’s Graffiti

A sojourn in Managua usually means staying in a decent hotel, taking hot showers, eating in nice restaurants, and maybe even doing a little shopping. We stayed at our favourite Managua hotel, Hotel Brandt’s, when we returned to Nicaragua from Costa Rica for a couple of nights this time around. After a long day on […]

30 Things I Love About Nicaragua

We’ve been here for three months this time around with another three to go; here are some of the best things about living and traveling in Nica! The language. Out with the Old, In with the New: The Burning of El Viejo

It is Nicaraguan tradition to build an El Viejo at the end of each year – a stuffed ‘old one’ made of old clothing. The face is painted and sometimes a hat is put on El Viejo, and his pockets are often filled with firecrackers. El Viejo sits outside for the days leading up to […]

Playing in the Rain

It is a rare occurrence to see precipitation in Nicaragua in the dry season. Nevertheless, we have witnessed a couple of light rainstorms in our three months in Nica. No one gets more excited about the rain than the kids! Our caretaker’s children live right next door to our rented beach house, and when they […]

We played around with different roasting techniques, but this saucepan gave us the best results. The longer the coffee roasts, being constantly shaken over the gas flame, the darker the roast and richer the flavour. This roast was a medium and tasted out of this world!!

From Plant to Cup: A Nica Coffee-Making Journey

On our trip to Matagalpa, we not only drank a lot of good coffee, but saw many of the gorgeous farms where it is grown. While on a backcountry trip we were able to purchase raw, unprocessed coffee beans directly from the farmers. We intently listened to the farmer as she told us how to […]
